NEWS
In the summer of 2005, at the request of the members of the Pike Lake Property Owners Association (PLPOA) and as indicated to you in previous mailings, the Pike Lake Management Planning steering committee began the process of developing a lake management plan.    According to what property owners have indicated to us so far, our vision involves the whole Pike Lake community helping to protect and improve the water quality, natural environment and tranquility of Pike Lake for future generations.

Last fall, we applied for and were accepted as the second lake in the Tay Watershed Lake Management Planning Program (see press release). Funded through a grant from the Ontario Trillium foundation, this program provides customized guidance and technical expertise to lakes for the development of Lake Management Plans (LMP). The steps and due dates for our plan are as follows:

1.  Data Collection – began in 2005, and will continue through and beyond the development of our LMP.  One example is the lake values and issues survey mailed to you in July 2006 from which we had excellent response.

2.  State-of-the-Lake Report – this report identifies the current state of a wide variety of lake characteristics and issues that the lake community wants to deal with.   The report will be finalized in 2007.

3.  Lake Management Plan – this report identifies a long term action plan to deal with the issues indicated in the State-of-the-Lake report.  The plan will be completed in 2008.

We need this to be an inclusive process and invite all property owners to make their opinions known so that the LMP reflects our whole Pike Lake community.   Everything our committee does will be communicated to all property owners and your feedback will be requested.  Here’s how you can be involved.   Read more...
